The 1988 GPz 1000RX carried on from the GPz900R with a bored-out, longer-stroke version of its liquid-cooled transverse four, now in a new perimeter frame with Uni-Trak rear suspension. A 1987 road test found the power delivery strong from low in the rev range but felt the bike was heavier and less manageable than the 900R. The reviewer judged it best suited to experienced riders.
